APD investigating fatal stabbing in Southwest ABQ

Albuquerque police have launched a homicide investigation after finding a man in an alleyway who appeared to have been stabbed in the heart.

The man was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, said Gilbert Gallegos, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman.

He said officers were were asked to respond to an unresponsive man in an alleyway in Southwest Albuquerque at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday. They went to 511 Bridge and found Albuquerque Fire Rescue personnel attempting life-saving measures. AFR transported the victim to the hospital.

“The male subject had a puncture to his heart from an apparent stabbing,” Gallegos said. He added that homicide detectives were conducting interviews and canvassing the area for additional witnesses.

No other information was immediately available.
