Updated: Esquibel loses split decision

Albuquerque MMA fighter Jodie Esquibel, fighting for the first time in more than two years, lost by split decision on Friday to Liz Tracy of Portland, Oregon, on an Invicta FC card in Kansas City, Kansas.

Esquibel (6-7) had last fought on Aug. 17, 2019, losing by unanimous decision to Hannah Cifers on UFC 241 in Anaheim, Calif. She then was released by the UFC after going 0-4 in UFC competition — though the fact that she remained in the UFC ranks after going 0-3 certainly says something about how she was viewed by that organization.

Friday’s fight marked a return to Invicta FC for Esquibel, who went 4-2 in Invicta fights from 2013-17.

Tracy (6-4) also was making a return to Invicta after going 1-3 within its ranks from 2017-20. She had last fought on a Submission Underground card in April, defeating Gillian Robertson by submission (arm bar) in overtime.
