Top Workplaces: Hospital district is No. 3 large workplace

Rank: No. 3, large workplace category.

Description: Nonprofit Nor-Lea Hospital District hosts a 25-bed, Medicare-certified critical access hospital serving Southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. An employer of 583 New Mexicans, the district also manages medical clinics in Lovington, Tatum and Hobbs, and offers a range of outpatient, specialty, imaging, oncology and infusion services. The district has placed on the Journal’s Top Workplaces list for eight years.

From the Organization: “Nor-Lea Hospital District prides itself with strong relationships of trust with other entities in Lea County and beyond,” company leaders wrote. “This year, community partnership could not have been more necessary. We elevated our relationship with local EMS, police, county authorities and school administrations by opening up testing facilities throughout the county. The operations and communication efforts were supported by all these entities and would not have been possible without their help. In October, we knew the vaccine would be headed our way soon. We formed a Lea County Vaccination Task Force in preparation of its arrival. By the time the vaccine arrived on December 16th, we already had a smooth drive-up vaccination operation in place.”

From the Employees: “It gives me opportunity to grow,” one staff member wrote. “I went from being a CNA to an MA. From working in a clinical setting to working in the oncological setting. I am really happy with my position here at Nor-Lea and all the people I work with in the Cancer Center.”

Albuquerque Journal and its reporters are committed to telling the stories of our community.
