RUIDOSO DOWNS – Heritage Place Futurity champion Big Biz Perry is among the entrants in the 28 All American Futurity trials, which will be run today and Friday at Ruidoso Downs.
The five fastest horses from today’s 14 trials and the five fastest from Friday’s 14 heats will earn a spot in the final of the $2.6 million, 440-yard All American Futurity, which will be run on Labor Day.
Big Biz Perry will run in today’s 12th race. The sorrel filly captured the $1 million, 350-yard Heritage in June at Remington Park. She is trained by Blane Wood, who will also send out Rainbow Futurity runner-up Belle Helene in the 13th race today.
Also in today’s 13th heat is West Texas Futurity champion Wr Golden Eagle. The New Mexico-bred filly is owned by Rose Webb.
Sam Houston Futurity winner Especially Tres is entered in today’s second trial.
The owners of Hes Relentless, second in the Heritage as the even-money favorite, paid a $50,000 supplemental fee to be eligible for the trials. The bay colt goes in today’s eighth race.
Reagal Eagle, the beaten favorite in the Rainbow Futurity, will race in Friday’s 13th heat.
Also going Friday will be Wagon Tales (third in the Heritage) in race No. 4 and Carters Disco (a qualifier for both the Ruidoso and Rainbow futurities) in the second heat.
Rainbow Futurity winner Ms First Prize Rose is recovering from injury and will not compete in the trials.
The All American Futurity trials are traditionally run on the same day, but have been spread over two days this year. First post time today and Friday is 11 a.m. Forecast is for partly cloudy skies both days, with a 20 percent chance of rain today and 10 percent Friday.
