Police arrest two men in connection with late-April murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have made two arrests in the late-April killing of a man found dead in the parking lot of a hotel on the 2500 block of University Boulevard.

Paul Ayala, 28, was found dead at the Super 8 Motel on April 30 shortly after 5 a.m. Witnesses told police they saw a man shoot Ayala and then drive away in the victim’s H3 Hummer.

Police then developed leads that took them four months to unravel. They eventually arrested 19-year-old Lloyd Aguilar and 20-year-old Jose Rios in connection with the deaths.

On Tuesday, the Albuquerque police gang unit arrested Aguilar, and homicide detectives today found and arrested Rios. Aguilar gave a full confession to his involvement, police said.

Aguilar is facing charges including murder, drug trafficking, auto theft, conspiracy and evidence tampering. He is held on a $250,000 cash only bond and a no-bond hold for an unrelated domestic violence charge, police said.

Rios has not yet been booked.
