Rally held to protest anti-abortion activists’ tactics
Abortion-rights advocates rally on Civic Plaza on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, to denounce the aggressive protest tactics of out-of-state groups pushing for an ordinance to restrict abortions in Albuquerque.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Abortion-rights advocates and others rallied on Civic Plaza this afternoon to denounce the aggressive protest tactics of out-of-state groups pushing for an ordinance to restrict abortions in Albuquerque.
They accused anti-abortion activists of terrorizing a physician’s family by going to his home with a megaphone, and they slammed the activists’ comparison of abortion to the Nazi Holocaust.
Michelle Racicot, a family nurse practitioner and former Army captain, said anti-abortion activists are using “intimidation, fear and harassment” similar to what she saw during tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Organizers estimated 200 to 300 people attended the rally.
Here’s the latest on where the signature-verification stands for the abortion initiative.
I’ll have more in tomorrow’s paper on both the rally and other developments in the abortion debate.
