The release from the coordinator of the University of New Mexico Law School’s Judicial Nominating Commissions says that Pfeffer, who handles a heavy criminal docket in the 1st Judicial District’s Santa Fe court, will leave on Oct. 12.
Pfeffer will be replaced by appointment of Gov. Susana Martinez, from among nominees submitted by a judicial nominating commission for the 1st District, which includes Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos counties.
The commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Sept. 19 at the Santa Fe County courthouse, Santa Fe, NM, to evaluate applicants for the position. The commission meeting is open to the public and members of the public who wish to be heard about any of the candidates will have an opportunity to be heard.

The deadline for applications has been set at Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.
Pfeffer’s retirement will be the latest in a series of departures by sitting 1st District judges in recent years.
