ABQ clerk expects to certify abortion initiative

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — City Clerk Amy Bailey says her staff has verified that supporters of a proposal to limit abortions in Albuquerque have submitted enough valid petition signatures to trigger an election.

Bailey said she is auditing the count now and expects to certify the initiative tomorrow. That means it would be proposed to the City Council, which could adopt the ordinance outright or send it to voters in an election as soon as November.
