Before the Ravens and Browns quarterbacks start airing it out Saturday, Cannon Air Force Base pilots will be putting on a little air show of their own.
Two MC-130J Commando II aircraft from the Clovis-area base are set to perform a flyover during the national anthem at the start of the Baltimore versus Cleveland football game at FirstEnergy Stadium in Ohio.
Lt. Col. John Sisler and Capt. Justin Vagts of the 6th Special Operations Squadron at Cannon will be piloting the aircraft.
“The MC-130J is a special operations staple, showing us what it means to go any place, anytime, anywhere,” Col. Terence G. Taylor, 27th Special Operations Wing commander, said in a news release. “We are excited to showcase this specialized aircraft and grateful for the opportunity to inspire the people of Cleveland.”
When it isn’t buzzing ball games, Cannon describes the MC-130J Commando II as a special operations aircraft that flies clandestine, or low-visibility, low-level infiltration, exfiltration and resupply of special operations forces by airdrop or airland, as well as air refueling missions for special operations helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft.
Cannon said the flyover taking place this weekend is part of the Air Force’s aerial events program designed to incorporate training with aerial demonstrations.
“These events also help foster unit morale and contribute to community support,” the base release said.
The Baltimore and Cleveland game will be on the NFL Network at 2:30 p.m. Mountain time.
