The most important gift of the season

Each season long after the decorations are put away and leftovers eaten, we realize how blessed we are to have time together. However, for hundreds of New Mexicans time is a gift they cannot spare.

Right now, more than 600 New Mexicans await a gift that may never come — a life-saving organ transplant. In the United States, 17 people die each day, and more than 100,000 men, women and children currently wait for an organ transplant.

There is hope. I’m asking you to help. The simple act of registering as an organ donor saves lives. The holidays are the perfect time to #BeTheGift and leave a truly lasting legacy. The adage “it’s the thought that counts” has never carried more weight than with a single decision to donate life. It is the ultimate gift.

A single organ donor can save eight lives and positively impact 75 more. The decision to #BeTheGift is powerful. In 2021, a record-breaking 41,000 transplants were performed in the U.S. and in 2022, we hit a world record of 1 million transplants.

As you gather with loved ones and connect with friends this holiday season, please consider leaving a truly lasting legacy by choosing organ donation. Discuss the decision with your loved ones, and reach out to us with questions.

The holidays are the perfect time to #BeTheGift. As you gather with loved ones and connect with friends, please consider making warm holiday memories possible for others by choosing organ donation.

You are never too sick and never too old to register as an organ donor. All major religions support organ donation, and there is no cost to register or become a donor.

Visit BeTheGiftToday.com to become this season’s most precious gift and learn more at donatelifenm.org. Thank you and happy holidays.
