Buu Nygren is on a journey. He recently opened up the next chapter as he was sworn in on Jan. 10 as president of the Navajo Nation. KOAT-TV will highlight Nygren in a one-on-one interview Friday for its Good News File.
Nygren speaks about his humble upbringing and how it inspired him to do big things. He also talks about his signature outfit during his campaign and how he believes it inspired a wave of young Navajos to support him.
He also talks about why he ran, even though so many people told him not to because they believed he wouldn’t win.
“As I traveled Navajo land a lot more of the younger generation recognized me – they said Buu, there’s BUU!” Nygren says. “I think that helped their parents make the decision to vote for me.”
“The Good News Files” is a collaboration among KOAT-TV, News Radio KKOB and the Journal, with each entity taking turns featuring stories that make you smile.
