One person was killed in a head-on crash with a stolen car early Friday morning on Albuquerque’s West Side.
Rebecca Atkins, an Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman, said the driver of the stolen car — described as “possibly a younger Hispanic male in his late teens, wearing dark clothing” and with a thin build — left the scene on foot.
Atkins said around 3 a.m. a Hyundai was traveling eastbound on Dennis Chavez between Unser and 98th SW and a stolen Buick sedan was traveling westbound.
“The two vehicles struck each other head on, and the driver of the Hyundai died on scene,” Atkins said. “After the collision the male driver of the Buick fled from the scene on foot.”
She said it is unknown whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash or which vehicle caused the crash.
“The male driver of the Buick was not located or contacted, and charges are pending,” Atkins said. “The investigation is ongoing at this time.”
