MDC looking to fill positions at hiring event

The Metropolitan Detention Center is hosting a free, on-site, rapid-hiring event on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Detention Center has multiple open positions for security and non-security jobs that it is hoping to fill during a free, on-site rapid hiring event Saturday, Jan. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at MDC, 100 Deputy Dean Miera Dr. SW.

Opportunities are available in the areas of corrections, health care, administration, social services and facility management.

A $5,000 hiring incentive is being offered for new corrections officers; lateral hires, officers with corrections experience, receive up to $10,000.

The starting pay for new officers is $20.34 an hour and increases to $21.36 upon graduation from the eight-week academy.

Bernalillo County employees are also eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits, life insurance, 13 days of paid vacation and 13 days of sick leave immediately upon hiring, gym memberships, and a 25-year retirement.
