He may have the most recognizable title, but Mayor Tim Keller is not the highest-paid person in local government.
Many hourly city workers earn more —particularly in the police and fire departments — as do certain high-ranking city officials appointed to their jobs by Keller. Some other elected jobs in the metro area also come with bigger paychecks.
But being mayor of Albuquerque still pays much better than other jobs inside and outside the public sphere. The mayor’s salary is currently set at $132,500, or about four times the salary of a city councilor.
As a comparison, the median salary for a worker in the Albuquerque area is $38,130, according to the state Department of Workforce Solutions.
