Art, music and lungfish: A look at 7 activities this weekend

By the time this weekend rolls around, Punxsutawney Phil will have made his prognostication on when winter will end. While his forecast is heavily anticipated, no word on who this marmot meteorologist is predicting to win the Super Bowl.

Lungfish and lager
The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is continuing its Science on Tap series Friday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.
Irene Salinas Remiro will discuss “In and Out of Your Cocoon: The Tribulations of the African Lungfish and Its Immune System,” at the museum, 601 Eubank Blvd. SE.
Tickets for the 21 and over event are $5 and include a drink ticket for one beer from Bombs Away Beer Company. Additional beer and wine will be for sale.

Sew much fun
The Las Colcheras Quilt Guild is hosting the Spring Fling Quilt Show in Las Cruces.
The two-day event runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4.
The show, held at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 University Ave., will feature judged quilts, special exhibits, demonstrations, vendors and more.
Admission is $7 for one day, and $12 for two days, and children under 12 are free.

 

Strike up the band
The Albuquerque Concert Band will be performing at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5.
The free concert will be held at Eldorado High School’s George Nason Performing Arts Center, 11300 Montgomery Blvd. NE.

Go Lobos!
The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team will take on the San Diego State Aztecs at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Pit. The Lobos were narrowly defeated by the Aztecs on the road Jan. 19, so let’s pack the Pit and rally behind our ladies in cherry and silver.

An annual affair
The Weems Gallery and Framing indoor sidewalk sale is set to kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
The event, which runs 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday until Feb. 11, features works by local artists at prices 40% off or more.

Take a walk
The ABQ Artwalk will take to the streets from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, in Downtown Albuquerque.
This month’s featured artist is Beedallo, who combines cartooning with traditional folk art. The event will also feature puppetry, live music, additional artists and more.

The Adobe Theater invites you to attend “The Dinner Party.”
The play, by Neil Simon, brings five people together for a mysterious dinner party set in Paris.
The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. Tickets run $15-$24, plus fees, at adobetheater.org. The Adobe Theater is located at 9813 Fourth St. NW.
