It was the chefs — not the Chiefs — who battled in this Souper Bowl. And it was for a good cause: Roadrunner Food Bank.
The nonprofit’s annual fundraiser took place Saturday as dozens of local eateries went head-to-head to see which could bring it with the best soup. Around 1,000 area eaters came out to sample the entries, raising money and awareness on hunger in New Mexico.
Thirteen restaurants were picked as winners but, in the end, there could be only one Souper Bowl Champion: Old Town Catering, which claimed 1st Place in the People’s Choice overall soup category.
The event also commemorated longtime Souper Bowl judge, food critic and blogger Larry McGoldrick — who died in 2021 — by naming the Critic’s Choice category after him.
The total amount raised Saturday was still being tallied.
