The International District is losing a major grocer with Walmart closing. Here’s a list of the closest alternatives.

Walmart announced Wednesday that it plans to permanently close its store on San Mateo near Central, a move that prompted concerns from neighbors that the void will create a “food desert” for shoppers who live in the International District.

Here’s a list of the closest grocery stores:

El Mezquite Market

El Mezquite, which specializes in Latino foods, is less than a mile away at 201 San Pedro SE.

Sprouts Farmers Market

A Sprouts Farmers Market is about a mile away at 5112 Lomas NE.

Talin Market

About a mile away is the Asian grocery store Talin Market at 88 Louisiana SE.

Damacio’s Grocery & Liquor

Damacio’s Grocery & Liquor is also about a mile away at 913 San Pedro SE.

Smith’s

The nearest Smith’s store is at Lomas and San Pedro, about 1.3 miles northeast. Another Smith’s is near the University of New Mexico on Yale, more than 2 miles away from the current store.

Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods Market is about 3 miles way at 2103 Carlisle NE.

Albertsons

The nearest Albertsons is about 4 miles away at 4950 Montgomery NE.
