
In 2013, “Star Wars” became the first major motion picture to be translated and dubbed into the Diné language. The NHCC is hosting a screening of that achievement with a night of sci-fi fun. May the Force be with you!

1 ‘A New Hope’ in Diné
Head out to the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 Fourth St. SW, for a special screening of “Star Wars.”
The galaxy far, far away will be presented in Diné at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10. Guests are invited to arrive early to tour the “Fronteras del Futuro” exhibit at 4 p.m. Manny Wheeler, who was instrumental in getting this version of “Star Wars” made into an official dub, will give a pre-film talk at 6 p.m. There will also be food trucks, music and the possible Stormtrooper. 2 Everyday we’re shuffling
Lace up those sneakers and head out to the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center for the Shamrock Shuffle on Sunday, March 12.
Racers and walkers have the choice between 10-mile, 10K, 4-mile run, 4 mile walk or kids K distances. The first race goes off at 9 a.m. Registration fees run $15-$55 at irunfit.org. The aquatic center is located at 745 Loma Colorado NE in Rio Rancho.
3 Camp Furlong Day
Pancho Villa State Park is hosting the annual Camp Furlong Day, on Saturday, March 11, as part of the greater Fiesta de Amistad in the Village of Columbus.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a guided historical tour of Columbus and three guest presentations. Pancho Villa State Park is located at 400 West N.M. 9 in Columbus. Visit emnrd.nm.gov for the schedule or more information. Regular park fees apply.
4 An afternoon of music
You’re invited to “An Afternoon Musicale” on Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. The program will feature a variety of performers and musical styles.
The concert, held at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St. NE, is sponsored by a local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization and raise money to support higher education for women. Admission is by a donation of $20 per person.
5 Making music
Spend an afternoon at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church for “When Morning Meets Evening,” a joint concert featuring the Rio Rancho New Horizons Band and Dukes of Albuquerque Concert Band. The concert will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12. St. Andrew is located at 5301 Ponderosa Ave. NE.
6 Xeric learning
The Xeric Garden Club will host Max Bervig, farm manager at Los Poblanos, as he speaks on “Building Soil for Vegetable, Flower and Herb Production.” The free event at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd. NE, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11.
The talk will include a demonstration on propagation and attendees will be able to take home a plant start. Visit xericgardenclub.org for more information.
7 Joking around
The Guild Cinema is hosting a Late Nite Comedy Jam on Saturday, March 11. Zach Abeyta will be headlining the event with Stef Darnell, Tripp Stelnicki, Chuck Parker and Bryan Valencia. It is hosted by Alex Benton. The laughs get rolling at 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, plus fees, in advance at eventbrite.com, or $20 at the door.
