Suspect arrested in Santa Fe cemetery murder

SANTA FE, N.M. — Orlando Yazzie, 37, has been charged with murder by Santa Fe Police for the death of a man whose body was found near Rosario Cemetery Tuesday, according to a police

Yazzie, who is also known as ‘Red Eyes,’ told police he fought with the victim and kicked him in the head while he was on the ground, the police statement says. Yazzie said he kicked the man about three times in the head because the victim was ‘”mouthing off.” Yazzie told police the victim was “being racial.”

Police believe alcohol played a factor in the crime.

Yazzie is being held in the Santa Fe County jail without bond.

Police are withholding the victim’s name until his next-of-kin are notified.

This is Santa Fe’s first homicide this year.
