Former Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty in Child Porn Case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man who was a corrections officer when authorities began investigating him pleaded guilty on Monday in federal court in Albuquerque to a child pornography offense, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

The agency said in a news release that Stephen Hensley, 42, of Tucumcari entered the guilty plea under a plea agreement to one count of receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Hensley faces from five years up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced, the news release said. He also will face a lifetime of supervised release after he completes his prison term and will be required to register as a sex offender.

The news release said Hensley was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service to be held pending his sentencing hearing, which has not been scheduled.

Hensley is a former corrections officer who was working at the Quay County Detention Center when the State Police began an investigation in January 2010 after Hensley’s Internet Protocol Address (IP) was identified as one that was offering child pornography images through a peer-to-peer file-sharing program, according to the news release.

The news release said that on Dec. 15, 2010, a federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment charging Hensley with two counts of receipt of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Hensley pleaded guilty Monday to the first count in the indictment and, under terms of the plea agreement, the remaining counts will be dismissed after he is sentenced, the news release said.

The news release said that in his plea agreement, Hensley acknowledged that a forensic examination of his computer and computer-related media uncovered hundreds of image files and video files of child pornography.
