Union Endorses Javier Gonzales for SF Mayor

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — And, with just six months to go until election day, endorsements in the Santa Fe mayoral race are starting to roll in…

The New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council has announced its choice of Javier Gonzales, former state Democratic Party chairman, for the city’s top elective post.

“For his community service and dedication to the City of Santa Fe, and for his leadership in multiple statewide progressive issues, the New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council is proud and honored to endorse the candidacy of Javier Gonzales,” council executive director Ray Baca wrote in a letter dated Sept. 18.

“Mr. Gonzales has proven himself time and again as an unflinching leader when it comes to the well-being and future outlook for those in his beloved community and the entire region. We know he will serve the people of Santa Fe well,” Baca wrote.

Gonzales also has the support of the only political action committee to register thus far for the March 2014 Santa Fe municipal election, a “community and labor partnership” called Progressive Santa Fe. It’s headed by New Mexico Federation of Labor President Jon Hendry, but Hendry said the PAC is a personal project and doesn’t have anything to do with his official labor duties.
