Edgewood Man Gets 97 Months in Child Porn Case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Edgewood man was sentenced in federal court in Santa Fe on Tuesday to more than eight years in prison in a child pornography case, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.

Brian M. Phillips, 44, received a 97-month prison term to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Phillips also will be required to register as a sex offender after he completes his prison sentence.

The news release said Phillips was indicted on June 10, 2010, and charged with one count of distribution and attempted distribution of child pornography, two counts of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. On Oct. 28, he pleaded guilty under a plea agreement to one count of receipt of child pornography, according to the news release.

The news release said the other three counts in the indictment were dismissed at the conclusion of Tuesday’s sentencing hearing.

During the investigation, forensic examination of Phillips’ computers found more than 1,000 images of child pornography, according to the news release.
