About those companies that want to ‘help’ you obtain your property deed …

If you’ve purchased a home recently in Albuquerque — or anyplace else for that matter — there’s a pretty good chance that you’ve received some official-looking letters encouraging you to spend as much as $83 to obtain a certified copy of your deed.

Don’t do it.

It’s not that having an official copy of your deed is a bad idea.

It’s just that you can get a copy from your local county clerk’s office for a mere fraction of that amount — and I really do mean a “mere fraction.”
