Descanso honors TV’s Walter White

“Breaking Bad” fans continue to honor Walter White.

North Valley resident Michelle Valdez-Browning and her brother, Marc Valdez, and son, Aaron Browning, put up a descanso – or roadside memorial – near the compound where White passed away in the show.

Valdez-Browning says her brother was part of the locations crew who helped scout the various areas that appeared in the show.

“He put his heart and soul into finding the right places,” she says. “After the final show aired, we got the idea to put the descanso there.”

It is located near Second and Los Ranchos Road NW, just off Daniel Road.

There’s also going to be the Walter White Funeral, which pays tribute to the fallen kingpin for the contributions to drug abuse awareness and Albuquerque tourism that his empire leaves behind in the city where he lived, loved and had come undone.

Organizers said this is a real funeral with a burial and a tombstone. All attendees are welcome to help bury White with a handful of earth that will be provided.

“Breaking Bad” set decorator Michael Flowers will deliver the eulogy and all proceeds benefit Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless.

The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Sunset Memorial Park. To learn more about the event visit
