ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Bernalillo County commissioners have approved a ban on picketing outside private residences in unincorporated areas of the county that includes Albuquerque.
The measure bans picketing focused on an individual home and is an outgrowth of anti-abortion picketing at a home in the county. It was approved Tuesday night on a 4-1 vote by the County Commission
The measure is similar to a law already on the books in Albuquerque.
Commissioner Wayne Johnson cast the only vote against the ordinance, which he said might violate First Amendment protections for free speech.
Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins supported the ordinance. She said people should be able to feel safe and secure in their homes.
