Both Lobo cross country teams in top 10

The University of New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams were both ranked ninth in the nation in the  U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national rankings released Tuesday.
After a fifth-place finish by the men and a sixth-place showing by the women at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Saturday. the Lobos have both their teams ranked in the top 10 for the first time in three years.
“It shows that the coaches think we’re doing a good job, since it’s a United States Track & Field coaches’ poll,” UNM head coach Joe Franklin said. “And we talk about this all the time: it’s consistency and expectation. And now we’ve been consistent for five or six years.”
The last time New Mexico had both the men and women ranked in the top 10 was the final regular-season poll in 2010 on Nov. 16, 2010, when both teams were ranked fifth in the nation. Both teams occupied the top 10 simultaneously five weeks in 2010, which was the only time in program history both teams ranked top-10.
The men have earned their highest ranking since the final regular season poll in 2010. It’s the first time the men have broken into the top 10 since then, as well.
