Prison Shakedown nets Contraband

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A New Mexico Corrections security team conducted a shakedown of the Penitentiary of New Mexico Level II prison, seizing several items of contraband in the search, a corrections spokesman said Thursday.
Seized in the random search by the Corrections Department CERT team were five syringes, four lighters, one tattoo machine, one ounce of marijuana and a small amount of tobacco, corrections spokesman Alex Tomlin said in an e-mail advisory.
Tomlin said these type of operations help ensure the safety of staff and inmates. Those inmates found in possession of contraband face disciplinary action, he said.
Deputy Secretary of Operations Joe Booker said the department works with law enforcement agencies to assure that violators are charged with criminal offenses.
