At the recent meeting of the Legislative Education Study Committee, Rep. Alonzo Baldonado expressed concern that physical education stretching or mat work at school may be yoga, and yoga is linked to Eastern religions like Buddhism and Hinduism. He is afraid that his children and others may be tainted by religious influences other than Christianity.
One would not expect an elected official to be so xenophobic and fearful about something he does not understand.
Shall we keep rice out of school, or maybe tea, or sweet and sour pork? How about removing the study of the Axis Powers from WWII history, the Chinese dynasties and the Great Wall, and taking Taoism, Shintoism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism from the study of the world’s religions?
This is the kind of nonsense so common among uneducated adherents of a particular middle-eastern religion.
And this person is supposed to represent me?
Narrow-minded people create issues where there are none. Yoga is known worldwide to be beneficial to one’s health. Let’s solve the real problems.
