Female driver dead in Santa Fe officer-involved shooting

 

Police have identified the female driver as Jeanette Anaya, 39, of Santa Fe, N.M. Anaya was dead at the scene.

A neighbor said this morning that she heard five or six shots during the incident.

The deceased driver’s male passenger is not facing any charges now, the State Police say. He was taken to the hospital only as a precaution and has no reported injuries.

The chase that that ended with the shooting started at St. Francis and Alta Vista.

A female driver is dead and her male passenger hospitalized following an early-morning pursuit and officer-involved shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico State Police said in a news release.

A State Police officer tried to pull over a vehicle for erratic driving, and the vehicle failed to yield, Sgt. Emmanuel T. Gutierrez said in the release. A pursuit ensued at 1:14 a.m., and there was a call to dispatch about shots fired at 1:19 a.m.

The woman driver was dead at the scene, and the male passenger was taken to a hospital complaining of minor injuries, according to the release.

Just one officer was involved, and the officer’s name has not been released.

The shooting took place near Herb Martinez Park in Santa Fe, and we are still awaiting information about the names of the driver and passenger and the circumstances of the shooting.
