Mountain West Basketball Enjoying Hot Start

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — With four more wins Wednesday night, the Mountain West Conference was thankful entering Thanksgiving with a combined 31-4 record (0.886 win percentage) among its nine men’s basketball teams.

Of the four losses, only one – Nevada’s 78-64 upset loss to UC-Irvine on Nov. 10 – could really be considered a bad loss. Two of the other losses were to nationally-ranked teams (San Diego State lost 62-49 to then-No. 9 Syracuse on Nov. 11 and Boise State lost a tight one, 74-70, to then-No. 15 Michigan State on Tuesday) and Fresno State opened the year with a two-point loss (55-53) on the road at Texas, a team that was receiving votes in both major Top 25 polls at the time.

No Mountain West teams play on Thanksgiving. UNLV and UNM play home games Friday, four league teams play Saturday and four more on Sunday, including UNM.

Here are the Mountain West standings through games played Wednesday, Nov. 21 (no league games will be played until January):

    Air Force 5-0
