ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The holidays are around the corner and as much as I love the actual celebration days – crowded stores, traffic and the icy-cold chill outside can put a damper on my pre-holiday cheer.

The chaos that can precede the holidays sometimes makes me wish I could temporarily disappear to a quiet, discreet place without cellphones, overeager shoppers and aggressive drivers. Thankfully, a sanctuary is not too far away.

Sandia Resort & Casino is offering exactly what the doctor ordered with its Winter Warmth Pass that allows you 10 visits to its Green Reed Spa through March 31 for only $159. This package is a $350 value.

The Winter Warmth Pass includes access to its hot and cold plunge pools, steam room, dry sauna, relaxation lounge and fitness center. And, Sandia Resort & Casino even throws in a private locker, robe and spa slippers. Access is available from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with the exception of Feb. 11 through Feb. 18.

Ahh, I can feel my stress fading away just thinking about it.

Maybe melting away the stress involves testing your luck at one of Sandia’s numerous slots. How does $300,000 in cash and free slot play sound?

During the month of November, Sandia is giving more than 1,500 winners a share at $300,000 in cash and free play during its “November Fall Frenzy.” Be part of the excitement by playing your favorite slot machine using your Peak Rewards card through Nov. 30.

There will be hot-seat drawings every half-hour with free slot play being given away from noon to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Hot-seat drawings for cash are every half-hour between noon and 9 p.m. Fridays through Sundays.

The table games are just as hot at Sandia. Every Sunday through Dec. 22, $10,000 will be given away during table game hot-seat drawings. Five winners will win $200 cash each hour from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Enter the “Head Hunter Poker Tournament” on Thursday at 7 p.m. with a $60 buy-in for your chance to win a cash prize plus an entry into the “Too Much Turkey” event on Nov. 28. Or enter Sunday tournaments at noon or Tuesday tournaments at 7 p.m.; each has a $40 buy-in. There will be $300 added prize money to each Sunday and Tuesday tournament.

Rack up 10 times the points each time you present your Peaks Rewards card for purchases at the various outlets that Sandia has to offer. Earn 10 times the points for every dollar spent in a cash or credit transaction. The points you rack up can later be redeemed toward food and beverage purchases — excluding alcohol — at lounges, restaurants and the buffet.

November is the month to relax, play and win at Sandia Casino and Resort.

SKY CITY CASINO HOTEL: The drive to Acoma is always a soothing experience once I get past the city limits. There is something about the sky and the landscape that makes the drive a pleasant one. This month, take that drive and see what Sky City Casino Hotel has to offer.

Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in November, from 5-10 p.m. Sky City will give patrons a chance to play “Turkey Pucks for Bucks.” Based on the famous Plinko game, patrons will receive nine pucks to place in the KaChingoKo Board to win $25 and up to a grand prize of $50,000.
