SANTA FE, N.M. — Rio Arriba County authorities dug up a septic tank on Sunday afternoon and recovered heroin that was flushed down a toilet at a home north of Española that was the site of a Friday drug raid, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
A second search warrant was served at the Tierra Azul home, about 15 miles north of Española. The packaged drugs seized on Friday that were thought to be heroin were in fact cocaine, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s spokesman Jake Arnold said on Monday. Needles containing heroin residue were also found Friday.
Twelve people were arrested at the home of Armando A. Madrid, 39, who has now also been charged with child abuse after a third child at the scene was taken into custody and turned over to grandparents.
One of those charged with drug trafficking, whose named had been listed as Robert Kowalezyk, 28, has now been correctly identified as Robert Kowalczyk, added Arnold.
