10:35am UPDATE: An Interstate 40 bridge being demolished over the Rio Puerco near the Route 66 Casino collapsed unexpectedly this morning, KOB-TV is reporting.
Crews on the scene tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 they were in the process of demolishing the former eastbound bridge when they say it came down faster than expected around 9:45 a.m.
The only injury reported was a gash to a worker’s elbow, KOB-TV reported.
All traffic on I-40 is currently diverted onto the former westbound bridge during construction. So traffic is not impacted.
