ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Mary Lee Nunley, 71, wife of former Ruidoso Mayor L. Ray Nunley, died May 19 in Mesa, Ariz., where the couple was staying following her husband’s knee operation, the Ruidoso News reported.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at LaGrone Funeral Chapel in Ruidoso, and a funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, the News said.
Mrs. Nunley was born in Cloquet, Minn., married the former mayor and former Lincoln County commissioner in Odessa, Texas, in 1956, and moved to Ruidoso in 1965 from Perryton, Texas, the paper reported.
She attended the Community United Methodist Church, served six years on the New Mexico State Board of Nursing and was an elder at First Christian Church, according to the News.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Robin LeAnn Nunley of Capitan; Don Ray Nunley of Payson, Ariz.; and Lonnie Edward Nunley of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, John Robert Kuitu of Hobbs and Richard Paul Kuitu of Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way, the News said.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community United Methodist Church and First Christian Church in Ruidoso.
