ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Lobos are losing outside linebackers coach Coleman Hutzler, UNM head coach Bob Davie confirmed Thursday night.
“I want to thank Coleman for his contributions as we began to build this program,” Davie said in a news release. “He is a talented coach and I know he will continue to have success. I wish him the best of luck moving forward.”
Hutzler, who previously worked at Florida, is returning to Gainesville to work for Gators coach Will Muschamp.
At Florida, and previously at Stanford, Hutzler worked for Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin.
Hutzler also was UNM’s special-teams coordinator and was given considerable credit for the success of those units — particularly the performance of sophomore Carlos Wiggins on kickoff returns.
Hutzler is the second assistant coach to leave the program since UNM’s 3-9 season ended on Nov. 30. Defensive coordinator/secondary coach Jeff Mills was fired the following week.
