ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Grand juries have cleared the Albuquerque police officers involved in two shootings last year, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Officer Kevin Sanchez was found to be justified in the shooting death of Mickey Owings on March 29, 2010. Owings, 26, was a suspect in an armed robbery and was seen in a Walmart parking lot at 2550 Coors NW, police said.
Another grand jury also found officer Jeremy Hollier justified in the shooting of Len Fuentes in the summer of 2010.
Hollier and another officer responded to an apartment on Crest SE on July 26, 2010, after neighbors reported a loud altercation between Fuentes and his girlfriend.
Fuentes, who suffered from mental illness, refused commands to drop his knife. Police say he lunged at the officers before being shot.
