Incumbents, former mayors seeking election in March

Rio Rancho’s formal candidate filing day drew strong interest on Tuesday with two incumbents, two former mayors and several political newcomers.

The nonpartisan municipal election will be held on March 4. City rules require runoffs in races with three or more candidates if no one gets at least 50 percent of the votes cast.

Here are the candidates and the positions they are seeking:

•Mayor (four-year term, at-large)
R. Morgan Braden
Greggory D. Hull
Jim Owen
Michael J. Williams

Owen was mayor from 2002 to 2006. Williams was interim mayor from mid-2007 to spring 2008 after the resignation of former mayor Kevin Jackson and the election of Mayor Tom Swisstack.

Swisstack announced in September he would not seek reelection,
