APS clothing bank now via Goodwill

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Public Schools’ Community Clothing Bank will now distribute its clothes through Goodwill Industries of New Mexico.

Under the partnership, students will no longer pick up clothes at the clothing bank’s University Boulevard location.

Instead, they or their parents can request a certificate from school counselors, nurses or social workers.

The certificates are good for three outfits that students can pick up at Goodwill Industries locations in Albuquerque. Students can request a certificate three times a year.

“These new changes mean the APS Community Clothing Bank can help more students, offer them better clothing selection and help them maintain dignity and style,” Sonja Martens, APS volunteer programs manager, said in a press release.

The clothing bank will continue to accept donations, though. Donation bins will be located at the current location, 1730 University SE; the APS administration building, 6400 Uptown NE; and Shoes on a Shoestring near Cottonwood Mall.

Monetary donations can be sent to the APS Education Foundation or made online at All monetary donations will be used to pay for new socks, shoes and undergarments given to students.

Albuquerque Journal and its reporters are committed to telling the stories of our community.
