ABQ Ride’s `66 Late Night’ Summer Bus Program Starts Friday

ABQ Ride will offer a late-night summer bus program designed to provide affordable public transportation to get people to a variety of venues and summer entertainment in the city, the agency said Thursday in a news release.

The program — dubbed “66 Late Night” — will kick off Friday (June 3) and continue every Friday and Saturday night through Sept. 24, according to the news release.

The “66 Late Night” service will replace the “Rapid After Dark” program of past years, the news release said. While the old program only utilized stops on the Rapid Ride/Red Line Service on Central, the “66 Late Night” service will use the Route 66/Central bus and its numerous stops.

“Using the 66 bus allows us to service more stops along Central than the ‘Rapid After Dark’ ever did,” said Bruce Rizzieri, ABQ RIDE director. “66 Late Night will also run from the Park and Rides at Tramway and Wenonah to Central and Unser, which means more riders can be served along a wider part of the city.”

Riders will be able to travel to four of Albuquerque’s entertainment districts — Old Town, Downtown, Nob Hill and East Central — with a bus running every 30 minutes, according to the news release. The fare is $1 per trip, with the last pickups through Downtown at about 1 a.m.
