LAS CRUCES – Daniel Mullings had a career-high 32 points to lead New Mexico State over Texas-Pan American 90-78 on Saturday.
New Mexico State (15-7, 4-2 Western Athletic Conference) shot 57 percent from the floor and made 26 of 34 free throws – where Mullins went 13 of 15. Renaldo Dixon added 15 points, Tshildzi Nephawe had 14 points with 14 rebounds and DK Eldridge chipped in with 14.
Shaquille Boga led Texas-Pan American (6-15, 2-4) with 19 points and six assists. Shaquille Hines added 16 points and seven boards.
The Aggies, coming off-back-to-back road losses, fell behind 17-5 four minutes into the game.
NMSU didn’t take its first lead until Eldridge hit two free throws with just more than 7 minutes left in the half to make it 27-25, but the Aggies never trailed again.
NMSU led 49-46 at the half, then made it 58-48 early in the second half.
The Aggies stretched the margin to 15 points midway through the half and UTPA never made a serious run after that.
New Mexico State plays host to Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday before WAC leading Utah Valley State (12-7, 6-0) visits the Pan American Center on Saturday.
