SANTA FE, N.M. — The Senate voted Wednesday to confirm three of Gov. Susana Martinez’s appointees to the state Board of Finance.
Both John Kormanik and Adelmo “Del” Archuleta were confirmed without dissent by the Senate, via identical 35-0 votes. Both men were appointed by the governor in February 2013.
Meanwhile, Board of Finance member Michael Brasher was confirmed Wednesday by a 33-4 vote.
However, the four Democratic senators who voted against his appointment raised questions about a 2011 vote by the Board of Finance to approve a new 25-year racino lease for the Downs of Albuquerque. Brasher voted in favor of the deal.
Critics of the Downs lease have described it as a pay-to-play deal, a claim that has been strongly disputed by the Martinez administration.
There is still one other Board of Finance member, Robert Aragon, awaiting Senate confirmation.
