The drought forecast: not much hope through February

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Driving around Albuquerque at lunchtime, I can report at least two, and possible three raindrops hit the dusty, dusty windshield of my dusty, dusty Honda Civic. But none of the bits of spitting rain around the metro area had yet, as of 3:50 p.m., found their way to the National Weather Service’s official Albuquerque gauge, which means that the 40-plus day dry streak remains at this writing unbroken.

But rain our not, the outlook for the foreseeable future remains grim, as today’s forecast from the federal Climate Prediction Center shows.
