Duke City gets a new baby goods emporium

The state’s first buybuy Baby has arrived.

The national chain is making its Albuquerque debut today at 2451 San Mateo NE.

The new 27,000-square-foot store is located next door to the recently opened Bed Bath & Beyond — its sister brand — in the new Plaza San Mateo development just north of Interstate 40.

Customers can expect a range of infant and toddler merchandise, from furniture to formula, bibs to blankets.

A spokeswoman was unable to provide staffing numbers for the new store.

New Jersey-based buybuy Baby was founded in 1996 and acquired by Bed Bath & Beyond in 2007, according to a news release. There are more than 86 locations open today.

Plaza San Mateo is expecting some other new tenants soon, including a Starbucks (with a drive-through) and a Subway.
