Interstate 40 has reopened, as has Montano, police said.
Albuquerque Public Schools are on a two-hour delay tomorrow. Parents are reminded to dress their children warmly and that buses might be delayed due to weather-related traffic.
Also, classes at all Rio Rancho Public Schools are canceled due to the weather.
Here’s what the RRPS district posted on its website: “Due to icy conditions on major roads throughout Rio Rancho, in the interest of safety Rio Rancho Public Schools has made the decision, in consultation with the Rio Rancho Police Department, to close on Thursday, February 6. There are already many accidents reported throughout the Rio Rancho area, and temperatures are not expected to warm up enough to thaw the roads in time for students to travel safely to school. Thank you for your understanding.”
More road closures are being reported in the metro area because of icy road conditions.
Northbound Interstate 25 at Tramway is closed, while westbound Paseo at I-25 also is shut to traffic.
Also, traffic is extremely slow near the Edgewood exit along Interstate 40 due to a crash.
7:30 p.m. — Albuquerque police report that Montaño Road is currently being closed from Coors to Fourth due to several wrecks.
APD says as soon the crashes can be cleared, the road will be reopened.
Drivers are advised to use different routes and to use extreme caution.
7:02 p.m. — Police are asking drivers to avoid Interstate 40 at Second Street due to “multiple” weather-related accidents there.
Officers are investigating the collisions, but they urge motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes in the meantime.
