ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Don’t be surprised if that “Bad Boys” song starts echoing through your head when you read the next sentence: The COPS television show is on its way back to the Albuquerque area.
Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said Thursday that crews will film with deputies in April.
“This is a great way to showcase the high-quality deputies we have here in Bernalillo County,” Houston said.
Not everyone is a fan of the show. Then-Mayor Martin Chavez prohibited the show from working with APD after his 2001 election, and Mayor Richard Berry hasn’t approved the show either.
“The City of Albuquerque was not approached by COPS,” mayoral spokeswoman Erin Thompson said. “Had we been, Mayor Berry has made it clear that he would have declined, as he is concentrating his efforts on opportunities to highlight Albuquerque as a center of innovation, arts and diversity which we believe will bring consistently positive attention to Albuquerque as a model place to live and do business.”
