Senators voted 41-0 Friday to approve a bill that would establish a free website that could be used by businesses looking to set up shop in New Mexico.
The legislation, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem Mary Kay Papen, D-Las Cruces, would call on the state to set up the portal by 2017.
Backers of the measure say it would improve the state’s economic climate, because businesses could use the website to file registration forms and pay fees required by the state.
The measure, Senate Bill 9, is one of three job-focused bills crafted by the Santa Fe-based Think New Mexico. The other two bills are still pending in the Senate.
It now advances to the House of Representatives.
