Prosecution rests in Ohlemacher murder case

District Judge Kenneth Martinez today denied a motion to acquit Ronald Santiago, who is charged with the murders of John and Bernadette Ohlemacher in their Paradise Hills home in 2005.

Attorneys for Santiago had asked the judge for a directed verdict of acquittal.

The prosecution rested earlier today, and the first defense witness is scheduled to testify this afternoon. The defense has estimated two days for its witnesses, so closing arguments are likely to be made later this week before the case goes to the jury.

Santiago, a former loan processor at Countrywide Mortgages, had worked on a loan application for the Ohlemachers, and that knowledge is what led law enforcement to look at him as a suspect.
