ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Beth Cosentino and Bobb Bruno are always working.
Whether they are working on new music or touring, the duo that makes up indie rock outfit Best Coast couldn’t be happier about their current situation.
Oh, not to mention that Best Coast was hand-picked by the Pixies to open on some dates of their tour.
“It’s an honor that we get to tour with them,” Cosentino says during a recent phone interview. “I’m obsessed with music from the ’90s and that’s been inspiring what we’re doing.”
The duo released its recent album, “Fade Away,” in October. The pair have been writing for another album they hope to have out this year.
“We’ve been demoing a lot of songs,” she says. “Our music in the past definitely has a ’60s vibe to it. Where the new stuff is recalling the vibe from the 1990s.”
Best Coast burst onto the scene in 2010 with its debut album, “Crazy for You.” The success was unexpected for the band, but a huge Internet buzz helped push it further.
“We just wanted to get our music out there,” she says. “The Internet is a powerful tool when it’s used right.”
Cosentino says she’s interested in seeing how the band’s sound evolves. Aside from inspiration from the ’90s, she says there’s been a lot more focus on the lyrics.
“I really enjoy the songs that are honest and ones that bare the soul,” she says. “I’ve been pushing myself to write like that and find the things that inspire me to write like that.”
