Bushee will work fairly for the whole city

SANTA FE, N.M. — My mom and I are native Santa Feans with roots going back to the early 1800’s. As Hispanic women, we value, honor and take the right to vote very seriously. Our vote needs to be earned by a candidate that has demonstrated the leadership and ability to think through issues facing our great city and guide ethical and practical decision-making.

Patti Bushee has demonstrated this ability as a city councilor over the past 20 years. She has served and represented all citizens of Santa Fe on varying issues that cross both economic and cultural boundaries from the north side to the growing south side.

Ms. Bushee’s years of service describe a range of local progressive politics that put the people first: affordable housing, funding for youth programs, hate crimes legislation, safe communities for our immigrant population, protecting our precious water supply and funding to build urban trails.

As residents of districts three and four on the south side of town, we want to ensure that our needs and issues are represented at City Hall. We believe that Ms. Bushee will bring an understanding of the needs of our districts by working with the City Council to address the infrastructure needs of the south side, ensuring that city programs and facilities support our neighborhoods with youth and senior programs, parks for our families, public safety and basic infrastructure like accessible curbs and sidewalks.

Ms. Bushee understands that many of our residents are struggling financially and deserve to have jobs that pay a decent wage. She understands that as a city we are facing a crisis with our kids and families going hungry and an unacceptable dropout rate in our public schools.

She has the experience to work in partnership with the City Council and the business community to create necessary jobs and employment opportunities for our people. Ms. Bushee has demonstrated leadership to work with the Santa Fe Public Schools, local nonprofits, business leaders and residents to identify solutions facing our youth.

As our mayor, Ms. Bushee will continue to fight for and represent all people despite their economic status, the color of their skin, different abilities, or where they live within the city boundaries. We are confident that she will continue to serve all people of our City Different and will ensure that we have a voice in our city government.

As voters, we researched the candidates and listened thoughtfully to the debates. We have concluded that there is clearly one mayoral candidate that is the most experienced, qualified and ready for the job. We are pleased to endorse Patti Bushee as the people’s mayor!

Margaret Yardman Duran and Roberta Duran are Santa Fe residents.
