AT PAGE ONE: The bookstore will host a Poetry Open Mic Night at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at its new location, 5850 Eubank NE, Suite B-41 in Mountain Run Shopping Center. The event will be hosted by Kenneth P. Gurney and the diverse local poets of New Mexico. Thirty minutes of open mic will be followed by a poetry reading by Jon Kelly Yenser. Sign-up for the session begins at 6:45 p.m.
Also at Page One, Carlsbad historian Donna Blake Birchell will talk about and sign her nonfiction book “Wicked Women of New Mexico” at 3 p.m. March 16. It chronicles women who were notorious gamblers, bawdy madams and confidence tricksters.
BOOK SIGNING: Clint G. Bridges will sign his book “Spirit Wisdom for Daily Living: Your Guide for Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Well-Being” from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Menaul Book Exchange, 9409 Menaul NE. It is a book of inspirational and motivational wisdom sayings.
AT BOOKWORKS: Jan-Philipp Sendker will make an appearance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at the bookstore, 4022 Rio Grande NW, with his novel “A Well-Tempered Heart.” It is the much-anticipated sequel to “The Art of Hearing Heartbeats,” set in Burma.
Also at Bookworks, TaraShea Nesbit will sign her novel, “The Wives of Los Alamos,” at 3 today. It looks at the lives of women in the secret town where their husbands were developing the atom bomb.
BOOK SIGNINGS: Gene Lessard will sign his book “Grandfather’s Tale: The Story of Human Evolution and Dispersal” from 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 14 at Hastings, 4313 Wyoming NE, and from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Hastings, 542 N. Guadalupe in Santa Fe.
NEW BOOK: Longtime Albuquerque schools principal Ann Piper is the author of “Education in Albuquerque,” a survey of the Albuquerque community’s evolving journey toward providing education to its youth. She is principal at Wilson Middle School and has worked for Albuquerque Public Schools for more than 27 years as a teacher and administrator. The book is part of the “Images of America” series by Arcadia Press. It is available at local bookstores, Costco and Walgreens.
